At Alstonville Florist we love them all! If you would like us to create a rustic wildflower bouquet or an arrangement featuring the best seasonal native flowers, we can help.
The natural beauty of Australia’s stunning native flowers is undeniable, with billy buttons, kangaroo paw, flannel flowers, dryandra, waratahs, rice flower and wattle (amongst many others) possibly being the most unusual.
Our florists love creating wildflower bouquets incorporating the amazing shapes, colours and textures in a natural style. And while different varieties of wildflowers are available most of the year, Autumn is the peak season for stunning proteas and banksias. Proteas which originated in South Africa, thrive in the same growing conditions as our Australian natives and are a popular inclusion in wildflower designs.
Native flowers are long-lasting, and on occasions when I’ve delivered flowers to some of our locals, I’ve seen the dried version of native flower designs I've previously delivered. They make great decorations and can create a sense of happiness and wellbeing that lasts indefinitely.
Yes, with our amazing banksias sending a message of strength and resilience, the kangaroo paw meaning uniqueness and individuality, extraordinary love and friendship, and Geraldton wax is a flower that conveys good luck and best wishes for lasting success and symbolises happy memories.
If you’re interested in native flowers and their meanings and like a good story, you might enjoy reading The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart by Holly Ringland. I’ve read this book twice so far and look forward to reading it again in the future.
With each season we source the best native flowers available from local and regional growers and also from our flower suppliers in Brisbane and Melbourne. If you’ve been in the studio you may have heard the shriek of delight when one of our florists discovers the first bunch of new season’s native flower in a wildflower delivery. (Last week the excitement was created by a bunch of flannel flowers in a box of beautiful native flowers from Paul at Mountain Nursery.
We look at our beautiful collection of native flowers and gather a selection of blooms to suit the order. It could be a bouquet, a vase of wildflowers, or a beautiful arrangement for a specific purpose. Then it’s up to the florist to draw on their talent, knowledge, skills and love of flowers to craft an appealing, unique floral design.
We deliver flowers to Alstonville and Wollongbar twice daily weekdays, and our couriers deliver to Lismore, Goonellabah, Ballina and most Northern Rivers locations every day. Please order before 12 noon for same day delivery, or phone us if it is an urgent flower delivery. We’re here to help you.
